The Chains

Wow, I feel quite silly for not writing in here as much as I said I would. Life happens but that's okay.

I just released a new song called "The Chains". The song was written in a spiritually dark place. I was too busy for a lot of things, one of them being God Himself and it was obvious in my life. I had become sick of being in the same spot as I was so then I turned to my Bible. I was reading Hebrews and and chapter 12, verse 1 caught my eye. It punched me in the gut and got me pumped. It goes like this:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

I knew that was what I had needed to do. I had a lot of junk in my life that I needed to throw away that was keeping me from being the person God calls me to be. And out came this song. I wrote it very quickly in the room I was staying in at my friend Tate's apartment (he has an awesome band called The Lionelle, do yourself a favor and check them out). I had finally started recording the song after my cousin Tommy gave me a mixer when I visited him in Denver. It took awhile but I enjoyed learning how to record. I think it has an Oasis kind of vibe with the acoustics and electrics going at the same time and the four-on-the-floor thing going on.

I really hope you guys like it.
God bless,
Matthew

A welcome and a marriage.

Hello everyone. My name is Matthew Nanes and this is my blog. I named it "Change of Scenery" from a lyric from a song that I have called "Anything Will Be Different". The song is a rebuke of sorts of someone that I knew but over time, it's become a rebuke of myself too. Not to say that this blog will be a place where I rebuke people (that would be stupid) but I figured it just sounded like a good title for a blog for now. I'm lacking inspiration on title names so bear with me. I will be writing about my life, my (and others music), theology, Jesus, sports among other things. I'll post lyrics and other creative writings as well.

Today is the day that my sister is getting married. I don't understand how insane people get with their weddings but I can say that at first with Ashlie and I's wedding plans, things seemed like they could be insane but as time as gone on, I believe us Nanes' have done pretty well considering how many plans have been put in place between Ash and I and all of the moving and planning that we have done. Ashlie's handling today like a champ, mostly because she's smart and front-loaded all of her wedding plans and hardly has anything to do today, praise God.

I'm proud of her and I'm super happy that I will get a brother in the form of the funniest, most awesome dude, Keaton. He's good for Ashlie and Ashlie is good for him and I pray their marriage will handle the stresses of this broken world and will emerge better from every fight and every trial that this world throws at them!

See ya at the wedding, reception and after-party.

God bless,
Matthew
